Commitment to Change
The Reuben Selby team have carefully sourced the knitwear yarn from Italian supplier Barrufa. Barrufa adopts a fully sustainable business model, reducing environmental harm through the purification of water, localisation of production and management of carbon storage. Since 1850, the company have produced yarn of the highest quality, without sacrificing the health of the planet.
Our commitment to sustainability and human rights welfare doesn’t stop there. 5% of the self-imposed tax from the knit will go to the charity Rimba Raya Biodiversity Reserve REDD+ in Indonesia. The REDD+ project helps to preserve carbon-dense tropical swamps - helping to stop deforestation for the extraction of palm oil. The charity engages with local communities in order to improve food security, income opportunities, healthcare and education. The REDD+ project also aids the protection of the 105,000 endangered Borneo Orangutangs. (read more)
Cutting-edge technology enhances the traceability of the garment production. Sheep Inc.’s signature NFC tag is present on the garment. A proprietary app embedded in the NFC tag allows the wearer to track their jumper to the farm that provided the wool for their jumper with the tap of a phone. The wearer adopts a sheep in the process and is provided with updates about its livelihood, from lambs to shearing, as each product is designed to re-connect the consumer with the origins of their purchases.
Furthermore, when scanned, the NFC tag reveals a full breakdown of the CO2 impact at every stage of the garment’s construction - translating into the Reuben Selby philosophy of giving weight to the production of mindful clothing. The capsule collection is due for release at the end of the month and will be available to buy via the Reuben Selby website with set price point of £220. With longevity at the core of the brand language, the collection promises permanent staples for your winter wardrobe. Knitwear to last.
